The Chapter has partnered in the sponsorship of the Streaming University Livestream Project, a community-based collaboration that creates and distributes community information streams produced and managed by NYC public housing residents.  The community information streams enable residents to keep informed about local events, activities, tenant meetings and conditions within their development and neighborhood.

The Streaming University Livestream Project is a collaboration of the NY Internet Society Chapter, public housing resident associations in Northern Manhattan, East Harlem, Central Brooklyn and Coney Island, the WHCR Emergency Broadcast Team (WEBT), The Smart Community Initiative (TSCI), and other community-based organizations.

The Chapter is co-developing and sponsoring additional community information services on an ongoing basis as way to extend its presence, brand and outreach further into local public housing communities in NYC.

The Chapter’s work includes hands-on training focused on the installation, operation and programming of community networks and information streaming facilities. The training is conducted on-site at various housing developments, as well as virtually online. Trainees include resident leaders and engaged tenants, young and old, interested in exploring the internet and communications technologies.
